The cold has finally let up! Rejoice!

What is it about summer light that’s so enchanting?

It’s also, sadly, not the first kidney stone I’ve had (although that one was much worse and landed me in urgent care hooked up on morphine. Sweet, sweet morphine.) and here are some photos from June 2009, a few days before I woke up with my kidney feeling like it was going to explode.

Featured in these are a few of my favourite things: 1) Calgary sunsets, 2) rain-slicked streets, 3) any sort of lights at night (i.e. streetlamps, cars, downtown, etc…)

Today we have a windchill of -37ºC and I cannot handle it!

Our backyard apple tree produces a ton of terribly sour apples. It also attracts spiders and insects of all kinds, which makes me really hate picking any of the apples. But I look forward to the day the first buds appear and we make the sour little things into a delicious pie again. We used to have a vegetable garden, too, which was a lot more work but the satisfaction of picking your own vegetables and making a salad on a hot summer day was worth it.

I finally learned to drive this past year (I know, I know) and one of my favourite parts of the learning process was driving to random places just for the experience. These are from an October drive to Bragg Creek, Alberta, the point of which was for me to experience 100km/h speed limits. Not going to lie, I enjoyed the walk through the woods more than the highway driving.

Mid-terms week. Not as bad as it could be, but still a pain. At least trying to memorize specific details about Roman art and architecture is a billion times easier and less headache-inducing than trying to memorize specific Mozart compositions was last semester. That was probably the most mentally taxing class I’ve taken in university, and it was a first year course! And I’m in my fifth year! Ridiculous.

Some more photos from Fish Creek Park, this time from July. I think it’s pretty obvious that I’m craving warmer climates. Some day I’m going to start a ‘winter getaway’ fund.
